Marmelojo from the road to Baños Colina
This week, the first week in June, we had a few days of beautiful weather—clear and in the 60s—and my friend Sid suggested we take the opportunity to go up the Cajón del Maipo into the
Living in Santiago the Andes are a constant backdrop, but Santiago isn’t a mountain city (altitude 520 meters/1,700 feet) and Santiagueños focus much more on the coast--Viña del Mar and Valparaiso --than on the mountains. But the Andes are really there, and they are really close.

We will be in Santiago for 8 days and have our hotel paid up. We would need to do day trips. Do you know if there is a bus or something we can take for day trips? We wouldn't want to rent a car. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteThere are public buses to all the towns and villages around Santiago leaving from the two central bus terminals (both on metro lines) which would be convenient for day trips to Vina del mar, Valparaiso, the pottery making village of Pomaire, Santa Cruz in the wine country, etc. There are also bus and walking tours of the city and tours to local sites of interest. Google "Tripadvisor Santiago Chile things to do" for a good overview.
